Meaning and how to use :
1. Expresses the meaning “Because I’m in that situation that I have to do such things..”.
This structure is mostly used in special occasions, the latter clause is often the action you should do in that situation.
Examples:
有名なアイドルに会えるとあって、私は一流な切符を買った。
Yuumei na aidoru ni aeru to atte, watashi ha ichiryuu na kippu o katta.
Because I can meet my idol (if ibuy premium ticket) so I bought the premium ticket.
初めてこの場合にあうとあって、彼女はすごく緊張した。
Hajimete kono baai ni au to atte, kanojo ha sugoku kinchou shi ta.
Because this is her first time in this situation so she is very stressed.
もうすぐ社長になる彼はいろいろなことをしなきゃならないとあって、最近忙しいだろう。
Mousugu shachou ni naru kare ha iroiro na koto o shi nakya nara nai to atte, saikin isogashii daro u.
He who is becoming the company president has a lot on his plate so he’s busy lately.
2. Expresses the meaning “If in this situation then obviously this action should be done.” This structure is used to describe certain special sitations.
Examples:
父が怒るとあって、何も言わない方がいい。
Chichi ga okoru to atte, nani mo iwa nai hou ga ii.
as (the situation is that) father is angry, you shouldn’t say anything.
特別エディションの物を買えるとあって、何も考えずにそのフェアに行きます。
Tokubetsu edishon no mono o kaeru to atte, nani mo kangae zu ni sono fea ni iki masu.
As I can buy the limited edition (if i go there), so I will go to that fair without thinking.
今の病気を治せるとあって苦い薬を飲んでもいいです。
Ima no byouki o naoseru to atte nigai kusuri o non de mo ii desu.
If I can cure my current illness then no matter how bitter the medicine is, I’ll drink/take it.
Note: Formal expressions, mostly used in verbal communications.
