Expresses the meaning “..or something…”. Used when we don’t know that thing clearly.
For example
カレーライスか何かしましょうか。
kareraisu ka nan ka shi masho u ka
Shall we pick curry or something?
友達にバカモノか何か叱られました。
tomodachi ni baka mono ka nan ka shikara re mashi ta
I was called stupid person or something by my friend.
紅茶か何かする?
koucha ka nan ka suru
Would you like tea or something?
娘は今日バッグか何か買いたいと言って、ショッピングセンターに行きました。
ko ha konnichi baggu ka nan ka kai tai to itu te shoppingu senta ni iki mashi ta
My daughter said she wants to buy something like bags, so she went to shopping center.
明日のパーティーのためにビールか何か準備しないといけない。
asu no patei no tame ni biru ka nan ka jumbi shi nai to ike nai
I must prepare beer or something for the party tomorrow.
Note: Auxiliary 「を」、「が」after 「かなにか」is often removed. In intimate spoken language it becomes「かなんか」.
