Meaning and how to use :
until something happened, then we realize a fact that we have never thought about before. Mean “It was/is not until”
For example
労働して苦労してはじめて、労働者の大変さに気を付きました。
Roudou shi te kurou shi te hajime te, roudou sha no taihen sa ni ki o tsuki mashi ta.
It’s not until I work hard that i understand how hard worker have to work.
親になって初めて、親の愛が分かりました。
oya ni natte hajimete, oya no ai ga wakari mashi ta.
It was not until I became parent that I realized their love.
この本を読んで初めて、作家の意見が全部分かります。
kono hon o yon de hajimete, sakka no iken ga zenbu wakari masu.
It was not until I read this book that i fully understood the author’s thought.
日本語を勉強して始めて、日本についていろいろないいことを知りました。
nihongo o benkyou shi te hajime te, nippon nitsuite iroiro na ii koto o shiri mashi ta.
Only after learning Japanese, I explored so many wonderful things of Japan
彼に出会って初めて、愛の大切さを知りました
kare ni deatte hajimete, ai no taisetsu o shiri mashi ta
It was not until I met him that I realized the important of love.
Note : After して初めて do not use causative forms
