Meaning and how to use :
Express natural feeling, emotion that speaker him/herself can not control. It’s also used to express nervousness that we can’t control.
For example
この映画はとってもいい内容があります。見た後で感動してしかたがない。
Kono eiga ha tottemo ii naiyou ga ari masu. Mi ta nochi de kandou shi te shikata ga nai.
This movie has a great content. After watching it, i was really touched.
お金をくれて、うれしくてしかたがない。
okane o kure te, ureshiku te shikata ga nai.
I was given some money, i was on the top of the world.
運動した後で、おなかがすいてしかたがない。
undou shi ta nochi de, onaka ga sui te shikata ga nai.
I was so hungry after moving.
新しい本が出版されました。買いたくてしかたがない。
atarashii hon ga shuppan sare mashi ta. Kai taku te shikata ga nai.
That book has just been published, I really want to buy it.
チケットが売れ切った。遅刻して、買えないので残念で仕方がない。
chiketto ga urekitta. Chikoku shi te, kae nai node zannen de shikata ga nai.
All the tickets were sold. Since I was too late to buy one, I really regretted.
Note:
1. Sometimes the auxiliary 「が] is removed to become(~てしかたない)
2. In spoken language we use (~てしょうがない)
