Meaning and how to use :

1.Express an action, event or situation which is/was going on while another action/event is/ was also happening at the same time
For example

Okaasan ga hirune o shi te iru ma, kodomo tachi ha terebi o mi te i ta.
While my mother was taking a nap, the children were watching TV

watashi ha nagai ma, kare o matte i ta.
I’ve been waiting for him for a long time

natsuyasumi no ma, zutto ne mashi ta.
I slept all the time during summer

amerika ni iru ma, zutto nyuuyoku ni sun de i mashi ta.
I lived in New York all the time while i was in the US

watashi ga ryokou no ma, uchi no inu no sewa o onegai deki nai desho u ka.
Could you keep an eye on my dog while I’m on vacation?

Note :
間:Express an event that is maintained in a continual long defined time
