Meaning and how to use :
Used to simulate the state of things with another thing, although in reality it is not the same. There is a case of analogy with objects that are completely fictional.
Examples
あの人はゆうめいな人のようだ。
Ano hito wa yuumeina jin no youda.
This person seems like a famous person.
そこに立っている人は山田選手のようだ。
Soko ni tatte iru hito wa Yamada senshu no youda.
The person standing there looks like Yamada player.
あのネコの身振りは犬のようだ。
Ano neko no miburi wa inu no youda.
That cat has gestures like a dog.
彼女のプレゼンテーションは有名な学者の説明のようだ。
Kanojo no purezenteishon wa yuumeina gakusha no setsumei no youda.
Her presentation is like a famous scholar’s explanation.
外の寒さは冬の真ん中のようだ。
Soto no samusa wa fuyu no mannaka no youda.
The cold outside is like in the middle of winter.
Note: This structure does not go with the な adjective and rarely goes with the い adjective . It often goes with adverbs to add meaning to the analogy;「あたかも」、「いかにも」、「まるで」、「ちょうど」、… . Many ways of saying with this structure become fixed and idiomatic. In speaking, we usually use「みたいだ」. In writing, also use「ごとし」.
