Describing that the speaker doesn’t wish it that way. This structure is often used in case something happens or is at risk.
Examples:
あの人は私がするつもりのことを阻まないといいのに。
Ano hito wa watashi ga suru tsumori no koto wo habama naitoii noni.
It would have been good if he hadn’t stopped what I was about to do.
子供をそんなに厳しく叱らないといいけれど。
Kodomo wo sonnani kibishiku shikara naitoii keredo.
If only I hadn’t scolded my children so seriously.
そんなに寒いとき出かけないといいけれど。今は風邪にかかってしまった。
Sonnani samui toki dekake naitoii keredo. Ima wa kaze ni kakatte shimatta.
If only I hadn’t gone out when it was so cold. Now I have a cold.
あの人に信じないといいのに。
Ano hito ni shinji naitoii noni.
If only I hadn’t trusted him.
こんなに単純でないといいのに。お金をたくさんだまされました。
Konnani tanjunde naitoii noni. Okane wo takusan damasa remashita.
If hope that it wouldn’t be so simple. I used to be tricked into losing a lot of money.
Note: At the end of sentence, there are some phrases like「いいのに/が/けれど」、 …It is natural speaking . You can also say 「なければいい」.
