Aななのと（は）ちがって
Aい／Vのと（は）ちがって

Meaning and how to use :

Expresses the meaning “Event/ thing that’s stated in the first part is different from one in the second part of the sentence”. Used when we want to compare 2 things having different nature.

For example

1. 元気な弟とがって、私はとても弱くて、入院してばかりいます。
genki na otouto togatu te watakushi ha totemo yowaku te nyuuin shi te bakari i masu
Unlike my healthy younger brother, I’m sickly and usually hospitalized.

2. 成績がいい田中さんとちがって、中村さんはいつも悪い点をとっています。
seiseki ga ii tanaka n to chigatu te nakamura san ha itsumo warui ten wo totu te i masu
Tanaka has good score, but unlike him, Nakamura always gets bad marks.

3. 我慢強い僕とちがって、妹はとてもせっかちだ。
gamanzuyoi boku to chigatu te imouto ha totemo sekkachi da
Unlike me being patient, my sister is hot headed.

4. お金持ちの高橋さんとちがって、山田さんは貧乏な人です。
o kanemochi no takabashi san to chigatu te yamata san ha bimbou na hito desu
Different from a rich guy like Takahashi, Mr Yamada is poor.

5. 母が作った料理が美味しいのとちがって、わたしが作った料理が誰でも味わいたくないほどまずいだ。
haha ga tsukutu ta ryouri ga oishii no to chigatu te watashi ga tsukutu ta ryouri ga tare demo ajiwai taku nai hodo mazui da
Unlike the delicious dishes my mother cooks, the food I make is so bad that no one wants to try.

Note: Might use the form「とちがい」.
