Meaning and how to use :

It is used to describe two simultaneous states of an object or event.

Example:

1. 必要なかつ好きなものは全部買った。
Hitsuyou na katsu suki na mono ha zenbu katta.
I bought everything I need and like.

2. 大学を卒業するのは、喜びかつ悲しみもあります。
Daigaku wo sotsugyou suru noha, oyobi katsu kanashimi mok arimasu.
There are joy and sorrow when graduating from university.

3. この宿題では分かるところかつ分からないところがあります。
Kono shukudai deha wakaru tokoro katsu wakaranai tokoro ga arimasu.
There are things that I understand and do not understand in this homework.

4. 倉庫で使えるものかつ無用なものがあります。
Souko de tsukaeru mono katsu muyou na mono ga arimasu.
There are both usable and useless things in the warehouse.

5. 夏は暑さかつ乾いた風も吹いています。
Natsu ha atsusa katsu kawaita kaze mo fuiteimasu.
Summer has both hot and dry wind blowing.

Note: This structure has the same meaning as 「そして」. It is in the written form. In speaking, it is often used in the form of 「…て」
