How to use particle に :
1. Express location of existence:
私の犬は車の中にいます
bokuno inuha kurumano nakani imasu
My dog is in the car.
日本にいる。
nihon ni iru.
I am in Japan.
2. Express place where some static actions such as: living, sitting, placing, working…take place(つとめる) :
椅子に座ってください
isuni suwatte kudasai
Please sit in the chair!
東京に住む。
Tokyo ni sumu.
I will live in Tokyo.
3. Express the time or level action takes place :
バスは8時20分に来ますよ
basuha 8ji20punni kimasuyo
The bus will come at 8:20.
20日に試験をうける
hatsuka ni shiken wo ukeru.
I will take an examination on the 20th.
4. Express the destination of some moving action
会社に着きましたよ
kaishani tsukimashitayo
I arrived at the company.
やっと南極に着いた。
yatto nankyoku ni tsuita.
I finally arrived at the South Pole.
5. Express the subject of action in a passive sentence:
犬に噛まれた
inuni kamareta
I was bitten by a dog.
私は先生にほめられました。
watashi wa sensei ni homeraremashita.
I was praised by my teacher.
6. Express the status or the result of the change
信号は青になってから行きましょう
shingouha aoni nattekara ikimashou
Let’s go when the signal turns blue.
野球選手になった。
yakyuusenshu ni natta.
I became a baseball player.
7. Express object of verb
本を彼にあげました
honwo kareni agemashita
I gave him a book.
友達に会った。
tomaodachi ni atta.
I met my friend.
8. List nouns
この会社の社員はインドネシアにマレーシアに日本人だ
konoshanoshainha indoneshiani mare-shiani nihonjinda
The employees of this company are Japanese, Malaysian and Indonesian.
9. Used with なる する to express decision
私は来週出張することになった
watashiha raishuu shucchousurukotoni natta
I will go on a business trip next week.
この会社の社員にする
kono kaishano shain ni suru
I will become employee of this company.
