浦島　太郎〈日本の　昔話〉

昔、ある　所に　浦島太郎と　いう　若い　男が　いました。ある　日　太郎は　子どもたちに　いじめられて　いる　かめを　助けて　やりました。かめは「助けて　いただいて、ありがとう　ございました。」と　言って、太郎を　海の　中の　お城へ　連れて　行って　くれました。

そこには　とても　きれいで、優しい　お姫様が　いました。太郎は　毎日　楽しく　暮らして　いましたが、うちへ　帰りたく　なりました。　帰る　とき、お姫様は　お土産に　箱を　くれました。でも、絶対に　箱を　開けては　いけないと　言いました。

太郎は　陸へ　帰りましたが、どこにも　うちは　ありませんでした。道で　会った　人が　300年ぐらいまえに　浦島太郎の　うちが　あったと　教えて　くれました。太郎は　悲しく　なって、お土産の　箱を　開けました。すると、中から　白い　煙が　出て、太郎は　髪が　真っ白な　おじいさんに　なりました。

Question :

Translation :

Japanese fairy tale – Urashima Taro

A long time ago, there was a young man named Taro Urashima. One day, Taro helped a turtle being bullied by children. The turtle said, “Thank you for your help.” and took Taro to the castle in the sea.

There was a very beautiful and gentle princess there. Taro lived happily every day, but he then wanted to go home. When returning, the princess gave him a box as a present. But she said that he mustn’t open the box.

Taro returned to the land, but there was no house anywhere. A person he met on the road told him that about 300 years ago, there was a house of Urashima Taro. Taro became sad and opened the present box. Then, white smoke came out from inside, and Taro became a grandfather with white hair.

Answer : 

1. 太郎は　どうして　かめを　助けて　やりましたか。
Why did Taro help the turtle?

・・・子どもたちに　いじめられて　いましたから。
… Because the turtle was being bullied by children.

2. 太郎は　かめと　いっしょに　どこへ　行きましたか。
Where did Taro go with the turtle?

・・・海の　中の　お城へ　行きました。
… They went to a castle in the sea.

3. 太郎は　どのくらい　海の　中に　いましたか。
How long was Taro in the ocean?

・・・300年ぐらい　いました。
… It was around 300 years.

4. お土産の　箱の　中身は　白い　煙でした。白い　煙は　何だと　思いますか。
Inside of the present box was white smoke. What do you think that white smoke is?

・・・300年の　時間だと　思います。
…. I think that’s 300 years.
