To do the “Mondai” section, you need “minna no nihongo” book and audios for listening

Exercise 1: Listen and answer questions

With this exercise, you will hear the questions and answer. When listening, stop for 30 seconds to 1 minute in each sentence to write the answer. With the questions that you don’t hear clearly, listen them the second time. After listening 1 or 2 times to answer the question, you can listen again to hear each word clearly and copy it to improve your listening skill and remember words better.

あしたは天気がいいと思いますか。(Do you think the weather will be nice tomorrow?)
…はい、いいと思います。

2.

日本についてどう思いますか。(What do you think about Japan?)
…交通が便利だと思います。

3.

日本人はあなたの国についてよく知っていると思いますか。(Do you think Japanese people know well about your country?)
…いいえ、あまり 知らないと 思います。

4.

日本人はごはんを食べるまえに、何と言いますか。(What do Japanese people say before eating?)
…「いただきます」と言います。

5.

東京は有名でしょう? (Tokyo is famous, isn’t it?)
…はい、有名です。

Exercise 2: Listen and choose true or false

With this exercise, the listeners will listen to the conversation, then there will be a key point about the problem that will be raised in the conversation. The listeners must choose whether the content is true or false according to what they has listened. If it is true, select 〇 (maru) and if it is false, choose ✖ (batsu). In this listening section, you should pay attention to the concluding sentence to see whether that sentence is given in a positive or negative form in order to avoid being “tricked” when listening.

女:課長は?
(Where is the section manager?)

男:2階の会議室です。今会議をしています。
(He is in the conference room on the second floor. He is having a meeting now.)

女:何時ごろ終りますか。
(What time does it end?)

男:3時ごろだと思いますが。
(I think it’s around 3 o’clock.)

女:そうですか。じゃ、またあとで来ます。
(Is that so. Well, I will come again later.)

女の人はこれから会議室へ行きます。(After this, the woman will go to the conference room.)

Exercise 3: Choose the appropriate word and give the true form

2.

Exercise 4: Convert direct speech to reported speech

1.

A :桜の 季節ですね。どこか お花見に 行きませんか。
B:ええ、日曜日 家族と 大阪城公園へ 行きます。

→ Bさんは日曜日 家族と 大阪城公園へ 行くと 言いました。

2.

A :この 本、おもしろいですよ。
B:そうですか。じゃ、貸して ください。

3.

A :パーティーは にぎやかでしたか。
B:ええ、とても にぎやかでした。

Exercise 5: Choose word from the box, give the true form and fill in the blank

Answer and translation

Exercise 6 : Read the following paragraph and choose true or false

カンガルー
この動物の名前を知っていますか。

「カンガルー」です。オーストラリアに 住んで います。1778年に イギリスの キャプテン・クックは 船で オーストラリアへ 行きました。そして、初めて この 動物を 見ました。クックは オーストラリアの 人に この 動物の 名前を 知りたいと 言いました。その 人は オーストラリアの ことばで 「カンガルー(わたしは 知らない)」と 言いました。それを 聞いて、イギリス人は みんな この 動物の 名前は 「カンガルー」だと 思いました。それから、この 動物の 名前は 「カンガルー」に なりました。

Translation:

Kangaroo
Do you know the name of this animal?
This is kangaroo. He lives in Australia. In 1778, the Captain Cook came to Australia by ship. And he saw this animal for the first time. Mr. Cook told the Australian that he would like to know the name of this animal. That person said in Australian language, “Kangaroo (I don’t know)”. After hearing that, all the British thought that this animal’s name is “Kangaroo”. Since then, the name of this animal became “Kangaroo”.
