JLPT N5 Grammar lesson 2. Hi everyone! In this article, Learn Japanese daily will introduce to you the JLPT N5 Grammar. Each lesson will consist of about 5 structures for you to learn step by step and have more time to practise.

Grammar structure 6 :

~から~

Formation :

V (short form) +
N だ+から
Aな(minus な) + だから
Aい+から

Explanation :

Because…
The clause that goes with から is a clause of reasons.

Examples and examples’ meaning :

1.風(かぜ)をひいたから、学校(がっこう)を休(やす)んだ。
i got a cold, so i was absent from school.

2.親(おや)だから、こどもをかわいがる。
because of being parent, he/she loves his/her children

Grammar structure 7 :

~から~まで

Formation :

~N + から ~ N + まで

Explanation :

From…to…
から is the beginning, まで is the end.

Examples and examples’ meaning :

1.私(わたし)は電車(でんしゃ)で東京(とうきょう)から大阪(おおさか)まで行い)きます。
I travel from Tokyo to Osaka by tram.

2.朝(あさ)の会議(かいぎ)は7時(しちじ)から10時(じゅうじ)まで行(おこな)われた
The morning meeting starts from 7 am to 10 am.

Grammar structure 8 :

~く/になる~

Formation :

Aい (minus い) +くなる
Aな ( minus な) +になる

Explanation :

To become

Examples and examples’ meaning :

1.今日(きょう)は寒(さむ)くなってきた。
It’s getting cold today.

2.部屋(へや)はもうきれいになった。
The room has become prettier.

Grammar structure 9 :

~たあとで~

Formation :

~Vた + あとで~

Explanation :

After….
Used to show an action happens in order, an action completes another action. Action 1 → action 2.

Examples and examples’ meaning :

1.朝(あさ)ごはんを食(た)べたあとで、会社(かいしゃ)へ行(い)きます。
I go to work after having breakfast.

2.帰国(きこく)したあとで、もとの先生(せんせい)に会(あ)った
I met my old teacher after returning to the country.

Grammar structure 10 :

~たい~

Formation :

Vます(minus ます)+たい

Explanation :

Used to show the speaker’s wants, it can also be used to ask about the listener’s wants. This can’t not be used to ask about a third person’s wants.

The conjugation of V たい is the same with いadjective

Examples and examples’ meaning :

1.田舎いなかに住住す)みたい
I want to live in the countryside.

2.なにをしたいですか。
What do you want to do?

  • some transaltion are missing in the examples (i.e. example of grammar structure 6),
    and some other are WRONG (example of grammar structure 9: 行きます = I go (usually) and not I went).
    Very bad!!!

    A list of little grammar structures is indeed very helpful to study o/

    Just in the phrase 木の下に猫がいった, i think it translates to “There ‘was’ a cat under the tree”

    Just a little thing, in the grammar structure 1, example 2
    先生 の 英語 あもりがわからない
    Sensei no eigo a mori ga wakaranai means “i don’t understand the english teacher”
