JLPT N3 Grammar lesson 24. Hi everyone! In this article, Learn Japanese daily will introduce you to the JLPT N3 Grammar.

Let’s take a look at the next 5 structures.

Structure 116 :

(VることはVる)/(AいことはAい)/(AなことはAだ)+が/けれど

Explanation:

But ~
To admit something but not positively, thoroughly.

For example:

日本語が話せることは話せますが、ペラペラ話せません。
Nihongo ga hanaseru koto wa hanasemasu ga, perapera hanasemasen.
I can speak Japanese but not fluently. 

このアパート、安いことは安いけれど、駅から遠いです。
Kono apaato, yasui koto wa yasui keredo, eki kara tooi desu.
This apartment is cheap, but it’s far from the station.

Structure 117:

Aくない/Aじゃない/Vない/Vられない+ことはない

Explanation:

It’s possible that ~, it’s not impossible that ~

For example:

本当のことを言いたくないことはないですが、言えません。
Hontou no koto wo iitakunai koto wa nai desu ga, iemasen.
It’s not that I don’t want to tell you the truth, but I can’t.

頑張ればできないことはない。
Ganbareba dekinai koto wa nai.
There is nothing you can’t do if you try your best.

Structure 118 :

Vたところ

Explanation:

(Have) Just…

For example:

彼は家に帰ったところです。
Kare wa ie ni kaetta tokoro desu.
He has just gone home. 

山田先生は出かけたところです。
Yamada-sensei wa dekaketa tokoro desu.
Mr. Yamada has just gone out.

Structure 119 :

Vる+ところだった

Explanation:

Almost ~

For example:

もう少しで、携帯電話を落とすところだった。
Mousukoshi de, keitaidenwa wo otosu tokoro datta.
I almost dropped my cell phone.

もう少しで、バスにかばんを忘れるところだった。
Mousukoshi de, basu ni kaban wo wasureru tokoro datta.
I almost forgot my bag on the bus.

Structure 120 :

Vて+はじめて

Explanation:

Only after ~, Until ~, Not until V
To realize after experiencing something.

For example:

彼女と話してはじめて、彼女が優しい人だとわかった。
Kanojo to hanashite hajimete, kanojo ga yasashii hitoda to wakatta.
It was not until I talked to her that I knew she was a kind person.

彼の声を聞いてはじめて、安心した。
Kare no koe wo kiite hajimete, anshin shita.
I was relieved only after hearing his voice.
