JLPT N3 Grammar lesson 20. Hi everyone! In this article, Learn Japanese daily will introduce you to the JLPT N3 Grammar.

Let’s take a look at the next 5 structures.

Structure 96 :

(Vば/Vなければ/Vたら/Vなかったら)+よかった

Explanation:

If only, If only I had done V.
To show regret.

For example:

もっと早く本当のことを言えばよかった。
Motto hayaku hontou no koto wo ieba yokatta.
If only I had told the truth earlier. 

新しいコンピューターを買わなければよかった。
Atarashii konpyuutaa wo kawanakereba yokatta.
If only I hadn’t bought a new computer.

Structure 97 :

Vば~のにVたら~のに

Explanation:

If only.
To emphasize the regret.

For example:

バスで行けばいいのに。
Basu de ikeba ii noni.
If only I had gone by bus. 

早く起きれば、遅刻しなかったのに。
Hayaku okireba, chikoku shinakatta noni.
If I got up early, I wouldn’t be late.

Structure 98 :

Vる+かな(あ)Vない+かな(あ)

Explanation:

Don’t know if ~
To show the interrogative-ness, put at the end of a sentence to question yourself.
If talking to other, it means to directly show a wish.

For example:

これ、美味しいかなあ。
Kore, oishii kanaa.
Don’t know if this is delicious.

彼女は甘いものが好きかなあ。
Kanojo wa amai mono ga suki kanaa.
Don’t know if she likes sweets.

明日は雨が降るかなあ。
Ashita wa ame ga furu kanaa.
Don’t know if it will rain tomorrow.

Structure 99 :

Vる+まで

Explanation:

Until the action V takes place ~

For example:

私たちは先生が来るまで話をしていました。 
Watashitachi wa sensei ga kuru made hanashi wo shite imashita.
We chatted until the teacher came.

彼女が戻るまで待っていた。
Kanojo ga modoru made matte ita.
I waited until she returned.

Structure 100 :

N+まで

Explanation:

Even N ~
To show surprise the topic.

For example:

ひらがなまで書けない。
Hiragana made kakenai.
I can’t even write hiragana.

君まで僕を捨てるのですか?
Kimi made boku wo suteru no desuka?
How can you even leave me?
