Let’s learn Japanese ~つ~つ grammar ~tsu~tsu :

Formation :

Vます(bỏ ます)+つ+Vます(bỏ ます)+つ

Meaning and how to use :

Describe two actions happening simultaneously
Often translated as: “While.. ” hay là “vừa…vừa…”. Sometimes, these are used as well: 「行きつ戻りつ」、「持ちつ持たれつ」

Examples:

彼は心配するかのように行きつ戻りつしている。
Kare ha shinpai suru ka no you ni iki tsu modori tsu shi te iru.
He’s walking around like he’s worrying about something.

彼女はばかばかしい場合に挟まって、泣きつ笑いつしている。
Kanojo ha bakabakashii baai ni hasamatte, naki tsu warai tsu shi te iru.
She got caught in a ridiculous situation so it’s ironic.

この開始したばかりのレストランでは押しつ押されつ、やっとのことで注文できる。
Kono kaishi shi ta bakari no resutoran de ha oshi tsu osare tsu, yatto no koto de chuumon dekiru.
In this newly opened restaurant, I had to crawl through a few people to finally order some food.

チームになったら、お互い持ちつ持たれつ一所懸命がんばりましょう。
Chimu ni nattara, otagai mochi tsu motare tsu isshokenmei ganbari masho u.
If we’re gonna be a team, let’s help each other and try our best.

飲み会で、私たちは差しつ差されつして、仲良くなる。
Nomi kai de, watashi tachi ha sashi tsu sasare tsu shi te, nakayoku naru.
At the drinking party, we drinked together and got along well.
