1. To emphasize third person’s desire. he/she wants to do something

松本さんはそのくつが欲しがることが分かります。
Matsumoto san ha sono kutsu ga hoshi garu koto ga wakari masu.
Matsumoto seems to like that shoes.

金子さんはアメリカへ行きたがっている。
kaneko san ha amerika he iki ta gatte iru.
Kaneko seems to like going to the USA.

あの子は絵本が欲しがっている。
ano ko ha ehon ga hoshi gatte iru.
This girl wants to get that comic.

妹は東京大学に入りたがっている。
imouto ha toukyoudaigaku ni hairi ta gatte iru.
My sister wants to go to Tokyo university.

木村さんは寿司を食べたがる。
kimura san ha sushi o tabe ta garu.
Kimura wants to eat sushi.
