Formation :

Nがいます

Meaning and how to use :

Describe the existence of living creature: “There is/are ….”. This structure is used only for living objects not inanimate objects.

For example

テーブルの下に猫がいます。
Tēburu no shita ni neko ga i masu.
There’s a cat under the table.

私の部屋に友達がいます。
watashi no heya ni tomodachi ga i masu.
There are my friends in my room.

あそこは子犬がいます。
asoko ha koinu ga i masu.
There’s a puppy there.

僕は妹が一人います。
boku ha imouto ga ichi nin i masu.
I have a younger sister.

事務所に先生がいます。
jimusho ni sensei ga i masu.
There’s teacher in the room.

Note: If we want to describe place “N (place) にN (human/animal) がいます” (as in example 1, 2, 5)
