Meaning and how to use :

Expresses the meaning “While doing something, do something else as well.” This structure only goes with some limited nouns like 「お見舞い」,「散歩」….

Examples:

散歩かたがた、近くの公園に花を見ましょう。
Sanpo katagata, chikaku no kouen ni hana o mi masho u.
While we walk, let’s go see the flower at the nearby park as well.

高橋先生が入院したようだ。お見舞いかたがた病院の近くの本屋に寄ってみます。
Takahashi sensei ga nyuuin shi ta you da. O mimai katagata byouin no chikaku no honya ni yotte mi masu.
I hear that teacher Takahshi is in the hospital. While we visit him, I drop by the nearby bookstore as well.

出張かたがら、ニューヨークの景色を見に行く。
Shucchou kata gara, nyūyōku no keshiki o mi ni iku.
While I was on my business trip, I went sightseeing in New York as well.

報告かたがら、皆の意見を聞きます。
Houkoku kata gara, mina no iken o kiki masu.
While annoucing, I want to ask everyone of your opinions.

お礼かたがら、お子様の元気をお祝い申し上げます。
Orei kata gara, okosama no genki o oiwai moushiage masu.
While thanking, I wish your son/daughter good health as well.
