Example:

あの人は私にうそを言った。
Ano hito ha watashi ni uso wo itta.
That person told me a lie.

恩人に早くお礼を言いなさいよ。
Onjin ni hayaku orei wo iinasai yo.
Please give thanks to the benefactor soon.

助けてくれた山田さんに感謝を言った。
Tasuketekureta Yamada san ni kansha wo itta.
I thanked Mr. Yamada for his help.

おめでたい隣さんにお祝いを言った。
Omedetai tonarisan ni oiwai wo itta.
I congratulated the neighbor who had good news.

Kamisama ni onegai wo itta.
I made a wish to God./ I prayed to God.
