This structure is to express the purpose of of something.

For example

1. このものは特別な材料を入れるのに使います。
kono mono ha tokubetsu na zairyou wo haireru no ni tsukai masu
This thing is used to contain special material.

2. このプロジェクトを完成するのにお金が必要だ。
kono purojiekuto wo kansei suru noni okane ga hitsuyou da
To complete this project, we need money.

3. このナイフは果物だけ切るのに使います。
kono naifu ha kudamono dake kiru no ni tsukai masu
This knife is only for cutting fruit.

4. あの仕事を受けるのに君の助けが必要だ。
ano shigoto wo ukeru noni kimi no tasuke ga hitsuyou
To get this job, I need your help.

5. このボタンは秘密な部屋を開けるのに使います。
kono botan ha himitsu na heya wo hirakeru no ni tsukai masu
This button is for opening the secret room.

Note: Can be replaced by「…するために」, but after「のに」 are limited words such as「使う」、「必要だ」、… so it’s not as flexible as「…するために」.
