Describing the meaning “different from usual”.

Examples:

例年になく、今年の盆祭りはとてもにぎやかです。
Reinen ninaku, kotoshi no bon matsuri wa totemo nigiyakadesu.
Unlike every year, this year’s Bon festival is very lively.

いつになく、彼は今日無口だ。
Itsu ni naku, kare wa kyou mukuchida.
Different from usual, he barely speaks today.

いつになく、今度の会議で彼女は無口だ。
Itsu ni naku, kondo no kaigi de kanojo wa mukuchida.
Different from usual, she was silent at this conference.

毎日になく、今日学校に行かないことにします。
Mainichi ni naku, kyou gakkou ni ikanai koto ni shimasu.
Unlike every day, I decide not to go to school.

毎週になく、今週の週末家にいることにします。
Maishuu ni naku, konshuu no shuumatsu ka ni iru koto ni shimasu.
Unlike every week I decide to stay home on the weekends.

Note: This is a idiomatic way. It can also be said as「…にもなく」.
