Meaning and how to use :

Describing the meaning “if it like that, it is too much…”. This structure expresses strong discontent with the previous clause.

Examples:

あの子は親戚の私に会うと挨拶をしないなんてあんまりだ。
Anokoha shinseki no watashi ni au to aisatsu wo shinai nante anmarida.
It was too much for that kid to meet an acquaintance like me without greeting him.

一本のペンでも貸してくれないなんてあんまりだ。
Ippon no pen demo kashite kurenai nante anmarida.
You are too much not to lend me even just a pen.

お金持ちでもお金を貸してくれないなんてあんまりだ。
Okanemochi demo okane wo kashite kurenai nante anmarida.
Being rich but not lending me money is just too much.

そんなに小さいミスならひどく叱られるなんてあんまりだ。
Sonnani chiisai misunara hidoku shikara reru nante anmarida.
Such a small error that was horribly scolded was too much.

借りたものを返さないなんてあんまりだ。
Karita mono o kaesanai nante anmarida.
It’s too much to not return what you borrowed.

Note: This structure is primarily used for speaking. Beside「なんて, we also use other forms such as「って」、「は」、「とは」.
