Describe the meaning “If I had to say then”. This structure is used in cases of judging the features of people or objects.

Example:

僕はどちらかというと熱心だし誰にも手伝いたいと思う人である。
Boku ha dochiraka toiuto nesshin dashi dare nimo tetsudaitai to omou hito dearu.
I’m a person who is rather enthusiastic and would like to help anyone.

あのレストランはどちらかというと料理が美味しくないし値段も高いし、人気がないレストランだ。
Ano resutoran ha dochirakatoiuto ryouri ga oishiikunaishi nedan mo takai shi, ninki ga nai resutoran da.
The food is not delicious, the price is high and the restaurant is not popular.

あの男の人はどちらかというと能力がないのに何でもやりたい人です。
Ano otoko no hito ha dochira katoiuto nouryoku ga nai noni nandemo yari tai hito desu.
That man is rather incompetent, but he wants to do everything.

この会社はどちらかというと待遇がよいし、給料も高いです。
Kono kaisha ha dochira ka toiuto taiguu ga yoishi, kyuuryou mo takai desu.
The treatment of this company is rather good and the salary is also high.

石田さんはどちらかというと頭がいいし、よく他人を助ける人です。
Ishida san ha dochira katoiuto atama ga iishi, yoku tanin wo tasukeru hito desu.
Mr. Ishida is rather smart and also often helps others.

Note: This structure is almost synonymous with 「どちらかといえば」
