JLPT N3 Grammar lesson 9. Hi everyone! In this article, LearnJapanesedaily will introduce you to the JLPT N3 Grammar.

Let’s take a look at the next 5 structures.

Structure 41 :

VてもAいくてもAな/N+でも

Explanation:

Even though ~
To show an inversion in conditional sentences. Even if X happens, it still doesn’t affect the result of Y.

For example:

調べても分からなかったので先生に聞いた。
Even if I research, I still won’t get it so I ask the teacher.

必要なので、高くても買います。
Because it’s necessary, even though it’s expensive, I still buy it anyways.

「すみません、黒は売り切れました。」
Sorry, the black ones are all sold out.
「黒じゃなくてもかまいませんよ。」
It’s ok, it doesn’t have to be black.

Structure 42 :

(どんなに/いくら)+Vても/Aいくても/Nなでも/Nでも

Explanation:

No matter what/ Even though ~ still ~

For example:

ギターを習い始めたが、どんなに練習しても全然うまくならない。
I have started to learn guitar but no matter how much I practise, I still can’t get any better.

私はいくらお酒を飲んでも顔色が変わらない。
No matter how much alcohol I consume, it still won’t affect my appearance.

Structure 43:

Vない+ずに
する→せずに

Explanation:

Not doing V but doing ~/ In stead of V ~
Used in idiomatic writing, equal to Vないで

For example:

辞書を使わずに書いたので、自信がありません。
I wrote this without using the dictionary, so I’m not confident.

昨夜、歯を磨かずに寝てしまった。
Last night I went to bed without brushing my teeth.

Structure 44 :

Nと+して/しても/しては/してのN

Explanation:

On the behalf of N/ in the name of N/ as N.
Used after the noun to show the right, position, class or title…

For example:

彼は外国人だが、日本代表として試合に出る。
He is a foreigner but takes part in the contest as a representative from Japan.

彼女は女性としても女優としても最高だが、妻としてはどうだろう。
She, as a girl or an actress is also amazing, wonder how she would be as a wife.

Structure 45 :

(V/N/Aい/Aな)普+にしては注意:Aだ、Nだそれにしては

Explanation:

~ Despite/ though ~
Followed by a completely contradictory outcome that people have already predicted, if based on that.

For example:

外国人にしては日本語が上手だ。
Despite being a foreigner, (his/her) Japanese is really good.

初めにしては、よくできました。
Despite being the first time, it was actually good.

洗ったの?それにしてはきれいじゃないね。
It’s already washed? Still not so clean, though.
