JLPT N3 Grammar lesson 3. Hi everyone! In this article, LearnJapanesedaily will introduce you to the JLPT N3 Grammar.

Let’s take a look at the next 5 structures.

Structure 11 :

Vる/Vない/Vれる+ように、~

Explanation:

To wish, hope ~ advise.
To show a purpose, normally used with modal verbs of possibility.

For example:

みんなに見えるように、赤い帽子をかぶります。
Minna ni mieru youni, akai boushi wo kaburimasu.
I wear a red hat so everyone can see me.

彼女を泣かせないように、私は何も言わなかった。
Kanojo wo nakasenai youni, watashi wa nani mo iwanakatta.
I didn’t say anything in order not to make her cry.

Structure 12 :

Vる+ようになる

Explanation:

To become, to change the state.
Used to show the change of state of things.

For example:

新しい生活になれるようになった。
Atarashii seikatsu ni nareru youni natta.
I’m now getting used to my new life.

やっと日本語の漫画が読めるようになりました。
Yatto nihongo no manga ga yomeru youni narimashita.
Finally, I can read Japanese manga.

Structure 13 :

Nの/V普+ように、~

Explanation:

According to.
Used to start a story.
Verbs usually used in this structure: 書いてある、言う、聞く…

Explanation:

辞書に書いてあるように、「ありがとう」は「Thank you」という意味です。
Jisho ni kaite aru yōouni, “arigatou” wa “thank you” to iu imi desu.
As it is written in the dictionary, “ありがとう” means “thank you”.

前にお話したように、今週レストランは休みます。
Mae ni ohanashi shita youni, konshuu resutoran wa yasumimasu.
As it has been said before, the restaurant will be closed this week.

Structure 14 :

Vる/Vない+ように

Explanation:

Let’s (do the action V).
Used at the end of a sentence, to show an order (subtle), not directly.
This structure used to show an even more subtle order than : Vてください and Vなさい

For example:

ここにごみを捨てないように。
Koko ni gomi wo sutenai youni.
Please don’t throw trash here.

明日は早く起きるように。
Ashita wa hayaku okiru youni
Please get up early tomorrow.

Structure 15 :

Vます/Vません/Vれます+ように

Explanation

To wish, hope, pray ~
To show the speaker’s hope wishfully.

For example: 

明日のサッカーの試合に勝ちますように。
Ashita no sakkaa no shiai ni kachimasu youni.
Hope you will win the soccer match tomorrow.

彼女は無事でありますように
Kanojo wa buji dearimasu youni.
Hope she stay safe.
