JLPT N3 Grammar lesson 19. Hi everyone! In this article, Learn Japanese daily will introduce you to the JLPT N3 Grammar.

Let’s take a look at the next 5 structures.

Structure 91 :

Vます+あげる/あがる

Explanation:

Done doing V (on the other hand, also means to increase V)
Used to show the completion of an action V, implies hard work.

For example:

やっとレポートを書き上げた。
Finally, I have done writing the report.

ケーキが焼き上がりましたよ。
The cakes are done.

Structure 92 :

V(ます)+切る/切れる

Explanation:

To finish completely (To emphasize the quantity)
V(ます)+切れない unfinished.

For example:

ご飯の量が多くて、食べ切れないよ。
Too much rice,  can’t eat it all up.

長い小説を二日間で読み切った。
I finished reading long novel in 2 days.

Structure 93 :

Vます+かける/かけのN/かけだ

Explanation:

Doing V, working on V, in the middle of doing V.
For a long process, it means “about to”, “going to”.

For example:

この本はまだ読みかけだ。
I’m still in the middle of reading this book.

お風呂に入りかけたときに電話が鳴った。
When I was taking a bath, the phone rang.

Structure 94 :

V(ます)+たてだ/たてのN

Explanation:

To have just finished doing V.
Equal Vたばかり(in speaking)
Used with certain verbs.
Not used with 読む、建てる、寝る、食べる

For example:

焼きたてのパンはおいしい。
Freshly baked bread tastes really good.

あのスーパーは取りたて新鮮な野菜を売っている。
That supermarket is selling fresh just-picked vegetables.

Structure 95 :

(V/N/Aい/Aな)普+といい(のに)なあ
(Vたら/Aかったら/Aだったら/Nだったら/Vば/Aければ/Aなら/Nなら)+(いいのに)なあ

Explanation:

How great would it be if ~
To wish.
Used when speaking.

For example:

もっと日本語がうまく話せたらいいなあ。
How great would it be if my Japanese could be better.

明日、雨が降らないといいなあ。
I hope it doesn’t rain tomorrow.

材料は新鮮だったら(いいのに)なあ。
It would be great if the materials were fresh.

担任は田中先生ならなあ。
It would be great if the homeroom teacher was Mr. Tanaka.
