JLPT N3 Grammar lesson 12. Hi everyone! In this article, Learn Japanese daily will introduce you to the JLPT N3 Grammar.

Let’s take a look at the next 5 structures.

Structure 56 :

(Vる/Vた/Nの)+とおりNどおり

Explanation:

Just like, exactly like ~

For example:

私が思ったとおり、彼女はもう帰りました。
Watashi ga omotta toori, kanojo wa mou kaerimashita.
Just as I thought, she has already left.

料理の本のとおりに作った。
Ryouri no hon no toori ni tsukutta.
I cooked according to the cookbook. 

見たとおりに絵を描いた。
Mita toori ni e wo kaita.
I drew what I saw.

Structure 57:

Vた/Vない+まま
(N/Aい/Aな)普+まま
Note:Aだな、Nだの

Explanation:

Just keep it like that, just like that.
To keep doing that and not doing something else.

For example:

昨夜、電気をつけたまま寝ました。
Yuube, denki wo tsuketa mama nemashita.
Last night, I left the lights on and went to sleep.

今朝、パジャマを着たまま出かけた。
Kesa, pajama wo kita mama dekaketa.
This morning, I went out in my pajamas.

Structure 58 :

Vます+っぱなし

Explanation:

Just leave V like that.
Used to criticize, should have done something in stead of leaving it like that.

For example:

部屋を散らかしっぱなしにしてはいけません。
Heya o chirakashippanashi ni shite wa ikemasen.
Don’t leave the room in a mess.

一日中エアコンをつけっぱなしにしないでください。
Ichinichijuu eakon wo tsukeppanashi ni shinaide kudasai.
Don’t leave the air conditioner on all day.

Structure 59 :

N+きり/きりだ/っきり/っきりだ

Explanation:

To address N
To limit to only N, equal to だけ

For example:

君と二人きりになりたいです。
Kimi to futarikiri ni naritai desu.
I want to be alone with you.

今は5人きり残っていない。
Ima wa 5-nin kiri nokotte inai.
There are only 5 people left now.

Structure 60 :

(Aい/Aな/Vたい)+がる/がって/がらないで

Explanation:

To express a wish, thought, feeling (not used for first-person point of view)
Auxiliary が→を

For example:

彼はお化けを怖がる。
Kare wa obake wo kowagaru.
He is afraid of ghosts.

あの子が遊びに行きたがっています。
Ano ko ga asobi ni ikita gatte imasu.
That child wants to go out.
