JLPT N3 Grammar lesson 17. Hi everyone! In this article, Learn Japanese daily will introduce you to the JLPT N3 Grammar.

Let’s take a look at the next 5 structures.

Structure 81 :

(V/N/Aい/Aな)普+(んだ)って
Note: Nだ(なんだ)って、Aだ(なんだ)って
[までだって、からだって、だけだって]もOK

Explanation:

Heard that ~
Used to describe information you have heard from others. Used when speaking, not with seniors.
When speaking with seniors, use(V/N/Aい/Aな)普そうだ。

For example:

この映画は面白いんだって。
Kono eiga wa omoshiroindatte.
Heard that this movie is interesting.

彼は来週国へ帰るんだって。
Kare wa raishuu kuni e kaerundatte.
Heard that he will return to his country next week.

Structure 82 :

(V/N/Aい/Aな)普+(んだ)もん/もの
Note: Nだ(なんだ)もん/もの、Aだ(なんだ)もん/もの

Explanation:

It’s because ~
Used to explain the reason that you assume it’s proper.
Use もん: used for both gender, もの: Usually used by women and children.

For example:

「どうして学校に行かないの?」
「だって、今日は日曜日だもん。」
Doushite gakkou ni ikanai no?
Datte, kyou wa nichiyoubi damon.
Why don’t you go to school?
It’s because… today is Sunday.

Structure 83 :

A,つまりB

Explanation:

It means ~, in other words ~
Used to explain the meaning.

For example:

私は明後日、つまり5月26日に結婚する。
Watashi wa asatte, tsumari 5-gatsu 26-nichi ni kekkon suru.
I will get married the day after tomorrow, that is to say May 26th.

彼女は母の妹です。つまり、彼女は私の叔母です。
Kanojo wa haha no imouto desu. Tsumari, kanojo wa watashi no oba desu.
She is my mother’s sister. In other words, she is my aunt.

Structure 84 :

Reason / そのため(に)result

Explanation:

~ that’s why ~

For example:

私は新しい車を買いたいです。そのために、お金をためている。
Watashi wa atarashii kuruma wo kaitai desu. Sono tame ni, okane wo tamete iru.
I want to buy a new car. That’s why I’m saving money.

日本に旅行したいです。そのために、日本語を勉強している。
Nihon ni ryokou shitai desu. Sono tame ni, Nihongo wo benkyou shite iru.
I want to travel to Japan. That’s why I’m studying Japanese.

Structure 85 :

Reason (had happened in the past)。その結果、result.

Explanation:

~ That’s why, the result is ~

For example:

私は一生懸命に勉強した。その結果、試験に合格した。
Watashi wa isshoukenmei ni benkyou shita. Sono kekka, shiken ni goukaku shita.
I studied very hard. As a result, I passed the exam.

三ヶ月ダイエットを続けた。その結果、5キロをやせた。
Sankagetsu daietto o tsudzuketa. Sono kekka, 5-kiro yaseta.
I have been on a diet for 3 months. As a result, I lost 5kg.
