JLPT N2 Grammar lesson 25. Hi everyone! In this article, LearnJapanesedaily will introduce to you the JLPT N2 Grammar. Each lesson will consist of about 5 structures for you to learn step by step and have more time to practise.

Structure 121:

V/ A/ N (short form) に+ 決まっている/違いない/相違ない

Explanation:

Definitely ~/ No doubt ~

For example:

彼はお祭りに参加するに決まっている。
Kare wa omatsuri ni sanka suru ni kimatte iru.
He will definitely attend the festival.

このカレーは辛いに違いない。
Kono karee wa karai ni chigainai.
This curry must be spicy.

これは事実に相違ない。
Kore wa jijitsu ni soui nai.
This must be the truth.

Structure 122:

V/ A/ N (short form) +とは限らない

Explanation:

Not necessarily always.

For example:

大人の言うことがいつも正しいとは限らない。
Otona no iu koto ga itsumo tadashii to wa kagiranai.
What adults say is not necessarily always true.

誰でも英語が話せるとは限らない。
Dare demo eigo ga hanaseru to wa kagiranai.
Not everyone can speak English.

Structure 123:

Vる/ Vるより + ほかない/ほかはない

Explanation:

There is only one way / There is no other way.

For example:

傘を忘れたので、雨が止むまで学校で待つよりほかない。 
Kasa wo wasureta node, ame ga yamu made gakkou de matsu yori hoka nai.
I forgot my umbrella, so I have no choice but to wait until the rain stops at school.

この仕事は誰もやらないから、自分でやるよりほかない。
Kono shigoto wa dare mo yaranai kara, jibun de yaru yori hoka nai.
Nobody does this job, so I have no choice but to do it myself.

Structure 124:

Nにほかならない

Explanation:

Because/ due to.

For example:

花瓶を落としたのは、私の不注意にほかならない。
Kabin wo otoshita no wa, watashi no fuchuui ni hoka naranai.
I dropped the vase due to my carelessness. 

彼があなたをからかうのは、まさに愛情表現にほかならない。
Kare ga anata wo karakau no wa, masani aijou hyougen ni hoka naranai.
He picks on you because he wants to show his affection towards you.

Structure 125:

Nを はじめ/はじめとして/はじめとするN

Explanation:

The first is N, N comes first.

For example:

この庭には薔薇をはじめ、いろいろな花があります。
Kono niwa ni wa bara wo hajime, iroirona hana ga arimasu.
There are roses and various other flowers in this garden.

わが国では、野球をはじめとして、サッカーやテニスなど、様々なスポーツがさかんである。
Wagakuni de wa, yakyuu wo hajime to shite, sakkaa ya tenisu nado, samazamana supootsu ga sakan dearu.
My country is good at baseball, and then football, tennis and other sports.
