JLPT N2 Grammar lesson 24. Hi everyone! In this article, LearnJapanesedaily will introduce to you the JLPT N2 Grammar. Each lesson will consist of about 5 structures for you to learn step by step and have more time to practise.

Structure 116:

N1から N2 にかけて

Explanation:

From N1 to N2 (both time and distance)

For example:

私は月曜日から木曜日にかけて学校を休んだ。
Watashi wa getsuyoubi kara mokuyoubi ni kakete gakkou wo yasunda.
I was absent from school from Monday to Thursday.

昨日は朝から夜にかけて、雨が降った。
Kinou wa asa kara yoru ni kakete, ame ga futta.
Yesterday, it rained from morning till night.

Structure 117:

Nに/ Nの Aさに + かけては/かけても

Explanation:

When it comes to N ~

For example:

私はスポーツにかけては誰にも負けない。
Watashi wa supootsu ni kakete wa dare ni mo makenai.
When it comes to sports, I won’t lose to anyone.

料理にかけては、彼女はクラスで一番だ。
Ryouri ni kakete wa, kanojo wa kurasu de ichiban da.
When it comes to cooking, she is the best in the class.

Structure 118:

V/ A/ N (short form) +とか

Explanation:

Heard that ~

For example:

マリアさんは来週、ジョンさんと結婚するとか。
Maria-san wa raishuu, Jon-san to kekkon suru toka.
I heard that Maria will marry John next week. 

彼は東京大学に合格したとか。
Kare wa Toukyou daigaku ni goukaku shita toka.
I heard that he got accepted to Tokyo University.

Structure 119:

Vるまい

Explanation:

Will not do something ever again.

For example:

あの女の人にはもう二度と会うまい。
Ano onna no hito ni wa mou nido to aumai.
I will never meet that woman again.

私はビールを絶対に飲むまい。
Watashi wa biiru wo zettai ni nomumai.
I will never drink beer.

Structure 120:

Vようか Vるまいか

Explanation:

To do or not to do something ~

For example:

私は車を買おうか買うまいか悩んでいる。
Watashi wa kuruma wo kaou ka kaumai ka nayande iru.
I’m worrying about whether to buy a car or not.

彼女に会いに行こうか​行くまいか迷っています。
Kanojo ni ai ni ikou ka ​ ikumai ka mayotte imasu.
I’m wondering whether to come to meet her or not.
