JLPT N2 Grammar lesson 14. Hi everyone! In this article, LearnJapanesedaily will introduce to you the JLPT N2 Grammar. Each lesson will consist of about 5 structures for you to learn step by step and have more time to practise.

Structure 66:

Nだらけ

Explanation:

Filled by a lot of ~
Used to show the negativity of the speaker.

For example:

彼が履いている靴は泥だらけだ。
Kare ga haite iru kutsu wa doro darake da.
The shoes he is wearing are muddy.

あの子の部屋はおもちゃだらけだ。
Ano ko no heya wa omocha darake da.
That child’s room is full of toys.

Structure 67:

VたきりVないVたきりだVたっきりだ

Explanation:

To keep, maintain (a state).

For example:

彼は出かけたきり、戻ってこない。
Kare wa dekaketa kiri, modotte konai.
He has gone out and still hasn’t returned.  

私の友達は病気で長い間寝たきりだった。
Watashi no tomodachi wa byouki de nagai aida neta kiri datta.
My friend was bedridden for a long time because of his illness.

息子は自分の部屋に入ったきり出てこない。
Musuko wa jibun no heya ni haitta kiri dete konai.
Once my son is in his room, he won’t come out.

Structure 68:

V ( minus ます) → Vきり/ Vっきり

Explanation:

Do nothing but ~
Just do V.

For example:

母は入院している父をつききりで看病している。
Haha wa nyuuin shite iru chichi o tsuki kiri de kanbyou shite iru.
My mom is in the hospital, my dad always stays and takes care of her.

Structure 69:

V ( minus ます) →Vっぱなし

Explanation:

Still V, all the time (nonstop)

For example:

私は2時間立ちっぱなしだった。
Watashi wa 2-jikan tachippanashi datta..
I stood for two hours.

彼は電気をつけっぱなしで、部屋を出て行った。
Kare wa denki wo tsukeppanashi de, heya wo dete itta.
He left the room with the lights on.

Structure 70:

Nに 反して/反し/反するN

Explanation:

Against ~

For example:

教師の予想に反して、今年の試験はとても難しかったです。
Kyoushi no yosou ni hanshite, kotoshi no shiken wa totemo muzukashikatta desu.
Against the teachers’ predictions, this year’s exam was very difficult.

皆の期待に反して、彼は優勝できなかった。
Mina no kitai ni hanshite, kare wa yuushou dekinakatta.
Against everyone’s expectations, he couldn’t win the championship.
