JLPT N2 Grammar lesson 13. Hi everyone! In this article, LearnJapanesedaily will introduce to you the JLPT N2 Grammar. Each lesson will consist of about 5 structures for you to learn step by step and have more time to practise.

Structure 61:

Vたかと/ Vたと + 思ったら/思うと

Explanation:

To think, have just
When all of a sudden you realize… feel weird and can’t understand.

For example:

子どもたちは食事を始めたかと思ったら、もうゲームをしている。
Kodomotachi wa shokuji wo hajimeta ka to omottara, mou geemu wo shite iru.
Just when the children had started eating, they were already playing games. 

彼は出かけたかと思ったら、すぐ戻ってきた。
Kare wa dekaketa ka to omottara, sugu modotte kita.
Just when he went out, he came back again.

Structure 62:

Aい/Nの/ Vた/ Vている/Vていた + ところ(に/へ/を)

Explanation:

Right when ~/ Just ~

For example:

お忙しいところすみません。
Oisogashii tokoro sumimasen.
Sorry for bothering you when you are busy.

彼は今出かけたところです。
Kare wa ima dekaketa tokoro desu.
He has just gone out.

Structure 63:

Vたところ

Explanation:

Have done

For example:

インターネットで調べたところ、その事件に関する情報はなかった。
Intaanetto de shirabeta tokoro, sono jiken ni kansuru jouhou wa nakatta.
I searched on the internet but found no information about that case.

お店に問い合わせたところ、その商品はもう売り切れていた。
Omise ni toiawaseta tokoro, sono shouhin wa mou urikirete ita.
After I asked the store, I knew that that product was already sold out.

Structure 64:

Vるどころ/ Nどころ/ Vているどころ + ではない/じゃない/ではなく/じゃなく

Explanation:

Have to do something (because of a different reason).

For example:

工場で火事があり、仕事どころではなかった。
Koujou de kaji ga ari, shigoto dokoro de wa nakatta.
Because there is a fire in the construction site, the work is being postponed.

今忙しくて、寝るどころじゃない。
Ima isogashikute, neru dokoro janai.
I have no time for sleeping now.

Structure 65:

Vる/A/ N + どころか

Explanation:

It’s not the time to do… let alone, even.

For example:

恋人どころか、友達もいない。
Koibito dokoroka, tomodachi mo inai.
I don’t even have friends, let alone a lover.

忙しくて、テレビを見るどころか、寝る時間さえありません。
Isogashikute, terebi wo miru dokoroka, neru jikan sae arimasen.
I’m so busy that I don’t even have time to sleep, let alone watch TV.
