JLPT N2 Grammar lesson 13. Hi everyone! In this article, LearnJapanesedaily will introduce to you the JLPT N2 Grammar. Each lesson will consist of about 5 structures for you to learn step by step and have more time to practise.

Structure 61:

Vたかと/ Vたと + 思ったら/思うと

Explanation:

To think, have just
When all of a sudden you realize… feel weird and can’t understand.

For example:

あの人は忙しい人で、来たかと思ったら、もう帰ってしまった。
That person is very busy, I realized they had come and gone home.

花が咲いたかと思ったら、もう散ってしまった。
Once you realize the flowers have bloomed, they have already started to wither.

Structure 62:

Aい/Nの/ Vた/ Vている/Vていた + ところ(に/へ/を)

Explanation:

Right when ~/ Just ~

For example:

お忙しいところすみません。
Sorry for bothering you when you are busy.

会いたいと思っていたところです。
I was just thinking I wanted to see you.

Structure 63:

Vたところ

Explanation:

Have done

For example:

病院で検査したところ、異常はなかった。
I have gotten checked in the hospital, nothing is wrong.

駅に問い合わせたところ、忘れ物は届いていた。
Right after I had asked in the station, the lost belongings were returned.

Structure 64:

Vるどころ/ Nどころ/ Vているどころ + ではない/じゃない/ではなく/じゃなく

Explanation:

Have to do something (because of a different reason).

For example:

工場で火事があり、仕事どころではなかった。
Because there is a fire in the construction site so the work is being postponed.

風邪がひどくて、遊びに行くどころじゃない。
Because I’m sick so I can’t go out.

Structure 65:

Vる/A/ N + どころか

Explanation:

It’s not the time to do… let alone, even.

For example:

「夏休みはとれそう?」 Can you take a summer holiday?
「忙しくて夏休みどころか日曜日も休めないよ。」 I’m busy, I can’t even take a day off on Sundays, let alone a summer holiday.
「そう。うちの会社は忙しいどころか仕事がなくて困っているんだ。」 Really? My company doesn’t have much going on, is now in difficulty, let alone busy.
