JLPT N2 Grammar lesson 12

JLPT N2 Grammar lesson 12. Hi everyone! In this article, LearnJapanesedaily will introduce to you the JLPT N2 Grammar. Each lesson will consist of about 5 structures for you to learn step by step and have more time to practise.

Structure 56:

A/ V (short form) +わけがない/わけはない

Explanation:

Definitely not ~
Is it possible that …
There is no reason to …

For example:

山田さんがあなたの財布を盗むわけがない。
Yamada-san ga anata no saifu wo nusumu wake ga nai.
Yamada would definitely not steal your wallet.

彼女がこの秘密を知っているわけがない。
Kanojo ga kono himitsu wo shitte iru wake ga nai.
There is no way that she knows this secret.

Structure 57:

Vる/ Vない/ Vている/ Vさせる + わけにはいかない/わけにもいかない。

Explanation:

Impossible/ Impossible not to = Must.

For example:

私は今死ぬわけにはいかない。
Watashi wa ima shinu wake ni wa ikanai.
I can’t die now.

私は彼女を待たせるわけにはいかない。
Watashi wa kanojo wo mataseru wake ni wa ikanai.
I can’t keep her waiting.

Structure 58:

Vたとたん/とたんに。Vた。そのとたん~

Explanation:

Right when/ Just.
Immediately (unexpectedly)

For example:

私を見たとたん、彼は逃げ出した。
Watashi wo mita totan, kare wa nigedashita.
Right when he saw me, he ran away.

家を出たとたん、雨が降り出した。
Ie wo deta totan, ame ga furidashita.
Right when I left home, it began to rain.

Structure 59:

Vた/Nの + あげく/あげくに/あげくのN
Vた。そのあげく~

Explanation:

Do ~ but in the end ~
Used to show an result after going through problems, hardships and difficulties after a long period of time.

For example:

いろいろ考えたあげく、彼に会いに行くことに決めた。
Iroiro kangaeta ageku, kare ni ai ni iku koto ni kimeta.
After thinking a lot, I decided to go and meet him.

何度も手術したあげく、治らないと言われた。
Nandomo shujutsu shita ageku, naoranai to iwareta.
I have had several surgeries but was told eventually that I couldn’t be cured.

Structure 60:

Vた/ Nの + 末(すえ)/末に/すえのN

Explanation:

After ~
Usually used in writing.
At the end of.

For example:

悩んだ末、このアパートに引っ越しました。
Nayanda sue, kono apaato ni hikkoshimashita.
After much agonizing, I moved to this apartment.

よく考えた末、私は本当のことを言うことにした。
Yoku kangaeta sue, watashi wa hontou no koto wo iu koto ni shita.
After careful thought, I decided to tell the truth. 

住民との話し合いの末、その建物の建設は中止となった。
Juumin to no hanashiai no sue, sono tatemono no kensetsu wa chuushi to natta.
After finishing talking with folks, the construction of the building has been cancelled.
