JLPT N2 Grammar lesson 12

JLPT N2 Grammar lesson 12. Hi everyone! In this article, LearnJapanesedaily will introduce to you the JLPT N2 Grammar. Each lesson will consist of about 5 structures for you to learn step by step and have more time to practise.

Structure 56:

A/ V (short form) +わけがない/わけはない

Explanation:

Definitely not ~
Is it possible that …
There is no reason to …

For example:

うちの子がそんなことをするわけがない。
My dog would definitely not do such things.

ほめられて、うれしくないわけがない。
There is no reason to not be happy when being praised.

Structure 57:

Vる/ Vない/ Vている/ Vさせる + わけにはいかない/わけにもいかない。

Explanation:

Impossible/ Impossible not to = Must.

For example:

重要な会議があるので、病気でも会社を休むわけにはいかない。
Because I have an important meeting so that even if I’m sick, I also can’t take a day off.

税金は高くても払わないわけにはいかない。
Even though the interest is high but it’s impossible for me to not pay.

Structure 58:

Vたとたん/とたんに。Vた。そのとたん~

Explanation:

Right when/ Just.
Immediately (unexpectedly)

For example:

窓を開けたとたん、強い風が入ってきた。
Right when I opened the windows, a strong wind blew in.

お酒を飲んだとたん、顔が赤くなった。
Right when I take a sip of alcohol, my face turns red.

Structure 59:

Vた/Nの + あげく/あげくに/あげくのN
Vた。そのあげく~

Explanation:

Do ~ but in the end ~
Used to show an result after going through problems, hardships and difficulties after a long period of time.

For example:

彼は酔っ払って騒いだあげく、寝てしまった。
He was drunk and caused a scene but went to sleep eventually.

何度も手術したあげく、治らないと言われた。
I have had several surgeries but was told eventually that’s I couldn’t be cured.

Structure 60:

Vた/ Nの + 末(すえ)/末に/すえのN

Explanation:

After ~
Usually used in writing.
At the end of.

For example:

悩んだ末、進学ではなく就職することにした。
After thinking, he has decided to find a job instead of continuing studying.

住民との話し合いの末、その建物の建設は中止となった。
After finishing talking with folks, the construction of the building has been cancelled.
