Common phrases using the word 気 (cont.)

The ones in orange are used very commonly.

26. 気が向く:(means to be prone to) To want to do, love to do.

For example:

が向いたら遊びにいらっさい。
Kigamuitara asobini irassai

Please come over whenever you feel like to.

27. 気が弱い;(means weak) Weak, to lose confidence, not able to do things you want.

For example:

試験に2回落ちたので次もだめなのではないかと気が弱くなった。
Shikenni nikai ochitanode tsugimo damenanodeha naikato kigayowakunatta.

Because I have  failed twice, I’m not so confident, afraid the next time I might fail as well.

28. 気が楽(らく)になる:(means happy) To feel relieved, secured. (Because things bother you have disappeared)

For example:

子どもたちはみんな結婚しているので気が楽だ。
Kodomotachiha minna kekkonshiteirunode kigarakuda.

All my kids are married, I feel so relieved.

29. 気が若い:(means young) To look/act younger/more immature than the real age

For example:

おばは35歳なのに高校生とけんかするなんて気が若い。
Obaha sanjuugosainanoni koukouseito kenkasurunante kigawakai.

My aunt is 35 years old but still fights with high school students, How immature!

30. 気が入る:To like

For example:

このオートバイは運転しやすいし、スピートも出るが、色が気に入らない
Kono ootobaiha untenshiyasuishi, supiitomo deruga, iroga kinihairanai.

This motorbike is very easy to drive, the speed limit is also appropriate, I just don’t like its color.

31. 気にかかる:Worried (pressured)

For example:

あめが強くなってきたので海へつりにいった弟が気にかかる。
Amega tsuyokunattekitanode umie tsuriniitta otoutoga kinikakaru.

The rain has been getting heavier, I’m really worried about my brother who is fishing on the ocean.
