Formation :

N1はN2にN3をもらう
Note : N1 is subject (giver)
N2 is receiver
N3 is object

Meaning and how to use :

Describe the meaning that is someone recieves something from other.

For example

僕は父にプレゼントをもらいました。
Boku ha chichi ni purezento o morai mashi ta.
I recieved gift from my dad.

ヤンさんは先生から日本語の材料をもらう。
yan san ha sensei kara nihongo no zairyou o morau.
Yan recieves Japanese learning material from teacher.

彼女は彼氏にバラ花をもらった。
kanojo ha kareshi ni bara hana o moratta.
She recieves roses from his boyfriend.

親友から有名な本をもらいます。
shinyuu kara yuumei na hon o morai masu.
I recieve from my closefriend a famous book.

妹が祖父においしいケーキをもらいました。
imouto ga sofu ni oishii kēki o morai mashi ta.
My sister has a nice cake from my grandpa.

Note : +)  “に” can be replaced by “から” to emphasize the meaning : “receive from whom” (examples 2, 4).
+)  “は” can be replaced by “が” to emphasize the meaning : who is the receiver  (example 5)
+) in interrogative sentence  “は” is replaced by “が”.
+) Formal form of  “もらう” is “いただく”
