Meaning and how to use :

Expresses the meaning “On this occasion/when/while..”.
Often used in big occasion or events with large scales.


Kaikai niatatte watashi ha shikai nitotte happyou o shi mashi ta.
On the occasion of the openning ceremony, I’ll be giving a speech as the chairperson.

undou taikai niatari ooku no kuni no daihyou ga ki te issho ni bokin o shi mashi ta.
On the occasion of the sport competition, many countries’ representatives have come and contribute to the fund-raising.

amerika daitouryou ga betonamu ni kuru niatari keibi in ga zouin sare mashi ta.
On the occasion of The President of the United State coming to visit Vietnam, the guards have been reinforced.

kokuren kaigi niatatte no supīchi ha ookina misu ga ari masu.
The speech on the occasion of the UN meeting has big mistakes.

shinnen niatatte seifu ha ichi nen no mokuhyou o minzoku ni shirase mashi ta.
On the occasion of New Year, the government has announced to its people the next year’s goal/target.

+) When used to impact meanings to nouns, the structuure is “N1にあたってのN2” (Example 4)
+) “にあたり” is the more formal form of “にあたって”. The more formal form is “にあたりまして”.
