Formation :

Meaning and how to use :

1. “Something…”, describe thing we can’t tell clearly.

For example

Nanka kai masu ka?
Do you by anything?

kanojo ga kyou nanka okashina ten ga aru no ga mieru?
Do you see anything strange on her?

mi te! kono sukāto, kawaii ja nai? nanka itte yo!
Look! Is this skirt cute? Say something!

2. “don’t understand why….”

For example

kyou imouto ga ie ni i nai. Nan ka sabishii desu.
My sister is not at home today. I don’t know why I’m feel so lonely.

boku ha nanka sonna koto o suru no. Yokan no toori kamo.
I dont know why i did like that. May be it’s inspiration

3. Pick the stand-out in an entire group to make an example. Also means “besides are things like that”. This is rough speaking of “など”, used in spoken language.

For example
o sake nanka arukōru no nomimono ha zettai ni nomu na.
you mustn’t drink wine or alcoholic beverages.

inu nanka kono manshon de kae nai.
Animals like dog is banned from here (not allowed to feed/raise here).
