Meaning and how to use :

1. Describe speaker’s command or desire to the listener. This structure is used in Texts. In some cases we use ”こととする”.
Only used with: Vる/Vない+こと

For example

この地方は危険な地方なので、入らないことだ。
Kono chihou ha kiken na chihou na node, haira nai koto da.
This is dangerous area, don’t go in.

単位をもらいたかったら、レポートを提出すること。
tani o morai takattara, repōto o teishutsu suru koto.
If you want to gain credits, you must hand in report.

2. Describe exclamation about something, even, state. This is spoken, female’s language, but if the speaker is youth, this can be used by both male and female.

Only used with:
Nだ+こと
Aな (remove な) +だこと
Aな(removeな)+なこと
Aい+こと
Vていること

For example

このおもちゃは面白いこと。
kono omocha ha omoshiroi koto.
This toy is so interesting.

あの子は本当に賢明なことだ。
ano ko ha hontouni kenmei na koto da.
That child is so smart.

お母さんは親切なことだ。
okaasan ha shinsetsu na koto da.
Your mother is so kind.

3.Used with structure ”Xこと Y”. Means ”X who is called Y”. X is common name or nickname, Y is real, official name. used in written language.
Only used with: NことN

村上こと春木村上は日本の近代文学の一番有名な作家です。
murakami koto haruki murakami ha nippon no kindai bungaku no ichiban yuumei na sakka desu.
Nakamura or Haruki Nakamura is the most famous author of the Japanese early modern literature.

明治こと明治大学は日本で一番好まれる大学だ。
meiji koto meijidaigaku ha nippon de ichiban konomareru daigaku da.
Meiji hay chính là đại học Meiji là đại học được yêu thích nhất Nhật Bản。

4.Describe a person, a thing and everything related to that person, thing. Is usually use to describe the object of idealogical verbs or verbs expressing sense,…
Only used with: Nの+こと

彼女のこと、もっと知りたいです。
kanojo no koto, motto shiri tai desu.
I want to know more about her.

君のことが大嫌いです。
kimi no koto ga daikirai desu.
I really hate you.
