Meaning and how to use :

Expresses the meaning “started at, begin with N..”. Events, situations than happen after N is often better than how it was.

Examples:
あの人の店は東京を皮切りに、日本全国の大都市に開店されして、大成功が得られました。
Ano hito no mise ha toukyou o kawakiri ni, nippon zenkoku no daitoshi ni kaiten sareshi te, dai seikou ga erare mashi ta.
That shop started opening in Tokyo, and then it opened in a big cities all over Japan and gained huge success.

田中選手はオリンピックの成功を皮切りに、スポーツ分野でいろいろな成績を得る。
Tanaka senshu ha orinpikku no seikou o kawakiri ni, supōtsu bunya de iroiro na seiseki o eru.
Starting with the success of the Olympics, Tanaka earned various achievements in sports.

このプログラムは日本でのいい結果を皮切りに、世界中で行われました。
Kono puroguramu ha nippon de no ii kekka o kawakiri ni, sekaijuu de okonaware mashi ta.
Starting with good result in Japan, this program is then proceed to be held all over the world.

あの作家は最初賞がもらえた作品を皮切りに、次に新しい作品をオフレコで出版したりする。
Ano sakka ha saisho shou ga morae ta sakuhin o kawakiri ni, tsugini atarashii sakuhin o ofureko de shuppan shi tari suru.
That writer gained recognition with his first novel, and then have various other novels after.

有名な人の吹き込む発言を皮切りに、若者はますます自分でいい生きがいの教訓をかけている。
Yuumei na hito no fukikomu hatsugen o kawakiri ni, wakamono ha masumasu jibun de ii ikigai no kyoukun o kake te iru.
Began with famous people’s quotes and sayings, young people themselves are making sayings and quotes about the way we should live life as well.
