Meaning and how to use :

Express the meaning “Afraid/fear for some unexpected thing that might happen”. Often used for bad things.

Examples:

あのエイズの病人からウィルスが伝染する恐れがある。
Ano eizu no byounin kara wirusu ga densen suru osore ga aru.
I’m afraid that viruses from that AIDS person spread through eye-contact.

大台風が四国に近づいている。この辺りにも環境させる恐れがある。
dai taifuu ga shikoku ni chikadui te iru. Kono atari ni mo kankyou saseru osore ga aru.
THe big storm is coming into Shikoku island. I’m afraid that this region will also be affected.

わが社の株が強く暴落している。会社が破産する恐れがある。
waga sha no kabu ga tsuyoku bouraku shi te iru. Kaisha ga hasan suru osore ga aru.
Our company’s shares are dropping in price. I fear that our company might be going bankrupt.

今は大学を卒業しても仕事を見つけない。失業の恐れがある。
ima ha daigaku o sotsugyou shi te mo shigoto o mitsuke nai. Shitsugyou no osore ga aru.
Although I finished university but I still can’t find a job. I fear that I’m going to be unemployed.

僕はクラスメートをいじめたので先生にしかられる恐れがある。
boku ha kurasumēto o ijime ta node sensei ni shikarareru osore ga aru.
I bullied my classmate so I fear that the teacher my yell at me.
